A sigh of spring 春の兆し

Today was　a holiday.
My wife asked me to harvest spinach from the field for tonight's dinner.
I went to the community farm.
I was about to pull out that, but couldn't do because that grew the roots deep into the
earth. I was obliged to dig out root’s side, hard.
The growth of roots were deeper than I thought
After my return home, I went in　the bamboo grove in front of my house
I found a horsetail there.
I felt like seeing a sigh of spring.

今日は休日だった。
妻から今夜の夕食のために、畑から　ほうれん草を取ってきてほしいと頼まれた。
市民農園に行った。
ほうれん草を 引き抜こうとしたが、根が地中に深く張って抜けなかった。
仕方なく、根のそばを掘り返さざるを得なかった。
根の成長は思ったより深かった。
帰宅後、家の前の竹やぶに入った。
一本の土筆を見つけた。
春の兆しを見たような感じがした。

土筆がでましたか、僕は水田地帯の田舎育ちですが、野草は食卓に上がりませんでした。土筆を初めて食べたのは大人になってから街の料理屋でした。母は戦時中に野草を食べ飽きたのでしょう。でも、セリだけは摘んでくると喜びました。母が亡くなり、新婦の父を経験し、父をホームに入れる。

Ｔ・Ｓエリオットの「荒地」ですが。高校の頃何度読み返しても理解が出来ませんでした。（訳詩を読んでもです。）五十才をこえた今、「春は残酷な季節だ」なにか琴線に触れる言葉です。

I. The Burial of the Dead
April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

Spinach is fine!
A horsetail is very cute, too.
In a splendid thing, spinach has spent winter and then it has grown up well.

T・Sエリオットは名前を聞いた程度でほとんど知りませんでした。詩も難解で
訳文をインターネットで調べたぐらいでした。日本語訳を読んでも、今のところ、ピンとは来ていません。「春は残酷な季節だ」この一文だけを捉えて解釈すれば、私は全く逆の印象を持ちました。年齢からくる（多分）冬の寒さに辟易としていた私には春こそ至福に近づく季節なのです。いろいろな夏野菜を栽培できるスタートの季節でもあります。
もちろん、エリオットの世界、「荒地」の世界とは全く関係のない話です。
どうも、私には難解すぎて、よくわかりません。いろいろな所から、研究すれば、その詩の持つ意味が垣間見られるのかも知れませんが。しかし、よい詩を紹介していただきました。若い頃の自分、思い出しました。

Though I almost never took care of them in winter.
They have been growing well.
They means spinach ,Shungiku.,broad bean
I felt the strength of them afresh.
My wife made spinach seasoned with soy sauce last night.
It was so delicious.

I have very little free time because I always have so much to do.
To give an example, I puzzle my mind about planning for our dinner and then I have to cook something in the evening and I have to clear the table at night.

英語の勉強を始めたのですが、なんとThis is a pen.からなんです。基礎固めの日々です。息抜きに、くらさんのＨＰに毎日のようにおじゃましています。
まだ英語でコメントできないのがくやしいし、それが励みでもあります。

お会いしましたのも何かの縁、よろしくお願い致します。

This is a pen の持つ意味を根本から考えられる所がすごいですね。初学者とは違います。私も、英語については大学の受験勉強以来の再学習です。相当期間、英語と離れた生活をしてきましたから、基本的なこと、例えば、aやtheの使い方など、いまだに曖昧です。「継続は力なり」のみを信じて、とにかく、毎日、英文を作ることに苦慮しています。こういう中で、英語の奥深さも少し
垣間見た気がします。例えば、「見る」という行為一つでも、see, look,watch
,stare, view, glance, glimpseの諸表現があり、それぞれ、イメージが違ってきます。こういう違いを楽しめることは、受験時代になかったことでした。
私も相変わらず試行錯誤の毎日です。共にがんばりましよう。
