Tanka Poetry (2) 短歌(2)

Tue/12/June/fine

Speaking of Tanka. I remember Takuboku Ishikawa.
I had engrossed in reading his works when I was young.
I liked not only Tanka but also poem and criticism.

短歌といえば、石川啄木を思い出す。
若い時、彼の作品を読むのに夢中だった。
短歌だけでなく、詩や評論文が好きだった。

Hi! Kura-san
Tanka poems in English are very splendid, which tell so sad stories that are known all over the world.
I remember watching an English program about Haiku some years back, which had been showing ways to compose Haiku.
It was of great interesting, however, on the other hand, it is considerably difficult to make it by oneself, I thought.
Previously, I had thought it was impossible to say both of them in English, because Haiku is a poem with 17 syllables and Tanka 31.

Thanks to you, I understood that even English poems can express deep feelings behind the writing.
Sorry, I can compose neither Haiku nor Tanka. And you?

You know, this is the most famous Haiku in the world, which is one of the English translations.
The old pond;
A frog jumps in, --
The sound of the water.

Hi!G clef-san
Haiku is also very interesting, isn't it?
It is difficult to make Haiku, which is worth to be appreciated, I think.
It is impossible to express with 17 syllables or 31 in English.
I think so, too.
When composing Haiku or Tanka,
I don't know what rules they keep.

I can not compose both of them.
The Haiku poet is Matsuo Basyo, isn't it ?
He is one of persons who I am interest in.
I still can recite some of his works.
Thanks to you, I could memorize one of his works in English.
